Tomasa Gonzales Obituary

Tomasa Gonzales went home to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 16, 2024, at the age of 94 in Houston, Texas. Tomasa was born on December 21, 1929, in Giddings, Texas to Federico Gonzales and Santos Tovar. She was baptized at St. Paul’s Catholic church in Smithville, Texas. She attended many Gonzales family reunions in Giddings. Tomasa lived in Laredo, Texas before moving to Houston with her 3 children. She is preceded in death by her parents and 3 sisters: Maria, Frances and Elpidia. She is survived by her 3 children, who she raised on her own, Jesus Saenz, Antonio Perez and Lourdes Watkins (Paul Denker); her niece Marcy Valdez Cruz (son Joseph and daughter Brenda); her grandchildren: Jesse Saenz, Juanita Garcia (Temo), Allan Watkins (Christa), Ryan Fowler (Airre) and her great-grandchildren: Olivia Watkins (mom Rosy Watkins), Ella Watkins, Kevin Garcia and Jon Davis and siblings. She was very fond of our dear friends Sylvia Watkins and Arthur who are like family to us. Tomasa worked for many years for several families and would often babysit. She was active throughout her entire life and continued to work up until her 80s. Tomasa loved her little parakeets that she had for many years and called them her children. She would talk to them and take care of them. She even convinced my friend’s husband to build her a bird mobile with wheels so she could move the bird cage around on wheels without having to lift it up. She loved to sew and always had her sewing machine handy to make her skirts, pillowcases and would hem a dress or pants when needed. She also loved to cook our favorite meals on our birthdays. She always made the best tamales every year during the fall season all the way up until New Years. She enjoyed her trips to McAllen, Texas for many years to visit family and friends. She loved going camping, fishing and enjoyed going to the Casinos very much. Tomasa went on many family vacation trips visiting many places from the east coast (New York) to the west coast (California). She went to Disney World, Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, Mexico City, Acapulco, Rome, Italy, Lourdes, France and visited many State Parks in Texas and many National Parks throughout the US. We have countless albums of pictures that will forever remind us of the memories we made with our mother.  A special thanks to those who helped take care of our mom: Josefina (home care) and the staff at the Heights of North Houston especially those who deeply cared about our mom:  Joseph, Georgina, Alba, Samantha, Jeanette and Miss Paula. God Bless you for your compassion towards our mother.  Dear Mom, may eternal rest be granted unto you. O Lord God Almighty, let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen. We love you mom, and we will miss you dearly. You are forever in our hearts. Your children: Chuy (Jesus), Toño (Antonio) and Yaya (Lourdes). Lord, we come before you with heavy hearts and ask that you comfort us as we mourn the loss of our mother. Help us to find peace in the knowledge that she is now in your loving embrace and that we will one day be reunited with her in heaven.
