Matthew Alexander Garman passed away on December 21, 2013 at Texas Children’s Hospital. Loving son of Michael and Paulina Garman and caring brother to Emilia Gabriela Garman. Matthew was born on March 19, 2007 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Houston, TX. Matthew’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quantity of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him and his positive attitude would brighten our days. Although Matthew’s illness made him appear frail, he possessed strength, perseverance, and an ability to overcome incredible odds and physical challenges. With his courage he led us to believe that each day is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. He could spend hours defeating the bad guys of Lego Wii. He loved reading or being read to while cuddling close to those he loved so much. He enjoyed music, chasing trains and playing near the railroad tracks. When asked his favorite color he replied blue but also green and red. He loved school, his teachers, and friends and never asked to stay home. Matthew leaves behind many wonderful caregivers that provided love and support that enhanced his quality of life. With Matthew’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his winning smile, he will forever remain in our hearts. Matthew’s Memorial Mass will be held at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 3600 Brinkman Houston, TX at 10:00 am on Jan 4, 2014 followed by a gathering at Garden Oaks Baptist Church at 3206 North Shepherd Dr Houston, TX. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Matthew’s name to Texas Children’s Hospital Heal Sick Children Fund.
