Maryellen Jacquez Murillo, 79, a native Houstonian, passed away peacefully at her home in the presence of her loving family. She was born on November 19, 1934 to Celio Najera and Olegaria Jacquez in Houston, TX. After graduating from Milby High School at the age of 16, she went on to St. Joseph’s School of Nursing receiving her RN in 1954. Mary worked 45 years at Methodist Hospital and at the V.A. Hospital. She retired from Methodist Hospital in December 1999. Mary was most proud of her family which brought her much joy. Her faith brought her strength, and her love of music was evident whenever she played the piano. Another of her favorite pastimes was writing; creating many adventurous stories about her grandchildren. Mary is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Raymond G. Murillo, three daughters, six grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Surviving daughters are Elizabeth Bandy and husband Kenneth of Katy, TX; Debra Wilkins and husband Mark of St. Johnsbury, VT; and Vera Barton and husband Preston of La Marque, TX. Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Aaron Bandy and Taylor Bandy of Houston, TX; Joshua Wilkins of Franklin, TN; Preston J. Barton and wife Gabriella of Texas City, TX and children Haley, Tyler, Isabel and Aliyah; Kyle Barton of La Marque, TX and son Kamden; and Vanessa Salas and husband Tony of Dumas, TX. She was the eldest of eight siblings and was preceded in death by her father Celio Najera, mother Olegaria Jacquez Gomez, step-father Antonio Gomez, and sisters Janie Gomez and Josie Lowell. She is survived by brothers Ralph Najera and Tony Gomez, and sisters Alice Werner, Yolanda Peer and Cynthia Valdez. She was the loving aunt of several nieces and nephews. On a personal note, the family would like to thank Becky Gonyeau, Judy Koumonduros, and Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care team for their loving care and kindness. A Memorial Mass will be held on August 4, 2014 at 11:00 am at Notre Dame Catholic Church located at 7720 Boone Road, Houston, TX 77072.
