Our beloved mother, Maria Guadalupe Smith, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Houston, Texas on August 2, 2015. She was married to Lloyd W. Smith on December 1, 1941 for 47 years until his death in 1989. Together they had seven children.
Lupe had an abiding faith in the Lord and would pray to Him each and every morning thanking Him for another day. As a life-long Catholic she would light one of her novena “Santito” candles that she always kept on her kitchen counter (her favorites were St. Jude and the Sacred Heart of Jesus) and pray for her needs and the needs of each of her family.
She was dedicated to her family and loved spending time with them. She very much enjoyed parties, shopping, dancing, gardening, searching for shells on the beach, chatting over coffee, watching old western movies and all holiday celebrations! Loved dearly by family and friends she will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd W. Smith, Sr. and her son, Lloyd W. Smith, Jr.. She is also preceded in death by her parents, siblings and many nephews and nieces. We are confident that they all are enjoying a wonderful reunion in Heaven. As I mentioned, Mama loves parties!
Lupe is survived by two sons, William H. Smith and Charles D. Smith, four daughters, Mary M. Walters and husband, Marshall M. Walters, Jr., Rebecca Roose and husband Rick Roose, Patricia Sample and Theresa Smith, all from Houston and daughter-in-law Rita Wheatly Smith of Louisiana. She is also survived by thirteen much loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her funeral will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The visitation will be on Friday, August 14, 2015 in the Mausoleum/Chapel at 9:00 a.m. through 11:00 a.m. with a eulogy beginning at 10:30 a.m.. A graveside burial will follow.
In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
