Karen (Hauer) Goering

Karen Goering, 70, passed away July 3, 2021 in Webster, Texas. Born in November 1950 in Kansas City,
Mo, Karen was the daughter of Charles and Ursula Hauer.

After graduating from Topeka High School she began to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a
nurse. She first studied at the Kaw Area Vocational School of Practical Nursing. In 1985 she became a
Registered Nurse through the Hutchinson Community College

Her love of nursing led to her meeting the love of her life, when at work she had to call for help cleaning
up a spill on the fourth floor west at Stormont Vail. She and Jim were married on May 29, 1971 in
Topeka Kansas. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last May.

She had a 48 year career as a very loving and compassionate nurse that can best be summed up in the
words of a family friend who she once cared for, “Karen Cares”. She started her career as an LPN later
becoming an RN as well as spending some years working as an EMT. She served briefly as the Director of
nursing in a small community hospital. She also managed operations for a home health company that
specialized in helping families with children on ventilators. She spent some years working in a Urologist
office and later retired from working after many years in an OBGYN office. After moving to South Texas
to spend more time with her grandchildren, she even spent some time being a substitute nurse for the
school district.

She loved spending her free time with family, attending school functions and sporting events, especially
once she became an Oma. She loved music and was a “singing nun” in a group called Sisters of Habit, for
a few years. She was a member of the Faith and Wisdom Church in Branson, Mo.

She is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband Jim Goering of Alvin Texas.
Other survivors include sons Corey (Gen) and grandchildren Oliver and Evelyn of Overland Park, Kansas
and Greg (Rachel) and grandchildren Sophie, Lucy, and Aaron of Alvin Texas. She is also survived by a
brother Robert (Becky) Hauer and sister Kathleen (David) Marker of Topeka Kansas.

There will be a Celebration of Life at the Trinity Apostolic Faith Church 410 S 4th Street Alvin, Texas on
July 10th at 10:30 AM. We will also hold a Celebration of Life service at the Cunningham Christian
Church 125 west First St. Cunningham Kansas on July 17th at 2:00 PM for all of her family and friends in
the Kansas and Missouri area. Memorials can be made to the American Cancer Society.
