Julia "Tita" Leonor De Ortega

Julia “Tita” Leonor de Ortega, querida madre y abuelita, falleció tranquilamente en casa en Richmond
Texas, el Domingo 22 de enero del 2023. Tita nació en 1931 en Santa Rosa de Flandes, Ecuador. Sus
padres Justo León y Antonia Aguirre.
Le sobreviven sus hijos, Wilfrido, Jaime, Freddie, Jacqueline e Iván; diez nietos; cinco biznietos, seis
hermanos, yerno, nueras y también por sus queridos primos, sobrinas, sobrinos, estimados amigos y su
amada mascota, Chance “Chiquito.”
Julia “Tita” fue la segunda de entre tres hermanos del primer compromiso de su madre Antonia Aguirre.
Creció alegremente en el campo y disfrutaba mucho bañarse en el río y comer frutas frescas. Colaboró
en la crianza de uno de sus hermanos del segundo compromiso de su madre. Ayudó a atender el
negocio de la tienda de abarrotes que era el sustento de la familia. Le gustaba comer huevos crudos y en
ocasiones los escondía bajo la cama. A los 27 años se casó con Timoteo Ortega, más conocido como
Wilfrido. Procrearon cinco hijos que fueron criados con especial cuidado y esmero. Le daba gran alegría
tener contacto tanto con su familia como con la de su esposo.
Después de 11 años de matrimonio emigraron a la ciudad de Guayaquil con el anhelo de proporcionar
una mejor educación a sus hijos. Enviudó a los 68 años y los 23 años restantes los vive en Houston para
estar bajo el cuidado de su hija y único yerno.
Tita amaba a las mascotas de la familia: Gorbachev “Cabecita de Pera”, Ace “Clen”, Lala “La Loca” y
especialmente Chiquito, su bebé. Aunque no era la mejor decisión, ella constantemente y a escondidas,
les guardaba comida, abajo de la mesa o por sus formas creativas de usar los contenedores de los
restaurantes o cenas familiares. Fue a través de Chiquito que ella encontró un compañero leal y al cual
pudo cuidar y construir un vínculo inseparable.
Su legado seguirá adelante para siempre recordándonos como debemos vivir nuestras vidas. Nosotros
nos esforzaremos a vivir una vida llena de significativos actos de amor y servicio, teniendo a Tita como
modelo. Ella nos enseñó lo que es fortaleza verdadera por medio de humildad, determinación,
integridad y compasión.
No hay palabras que puedan expresar el agradecimiento y lo bendecidos que nos sentimos al contar
con nuestros amigos y familiares que estaban allí con nosotros la noche de su fallecimiento. También
extendemos un profundo agradecimiento a los empleados de Unity Funeral Home por venir a
socorrernos durante nuestro tiempo de necesidad.

Julia “Tita” Leonor de Ortega, loving mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully at home in
Richmond, Texas on Sunday, January 22, 2023. She is survived by her children, Wilfrido, Jaime, Freddie,
Jacqueline and Ivan; ten grandchildren; six siblings as well as beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, dear
friends and furry companion, Chance “Chiquito."
Tita was born on March 16, 1931 in Santa Rosa de Flandes, Ecuador to parents Justo Leon and Antonia
Aguirre. She was the second of three siblings from her mother’s, Antonia Aguirre, first commitment. She
grew up happily in the countryside and thoroughly enjoyed bathing in the river and eating fresh fruits.
She aided in raising one of her brothers from her mother’s second commitment. She helped tend to the
family grocery store business which was the family’s primary income source. She liked to eat raw eggs
and on occasion hid them under the bed. At the age of twenty-seven she married Timoteo “Wilfrido”
Ortega. They had five children who were raised with special love and care. She loved keeping in touch
with her family as well as her husband’s.
After eleven years of marriage, they moved to the city of Guayaquil, Ecuador to provide their children
with a better education that wasn’t available in the countryside. She was widowed at the age of sixty-
eight and spent her remaining twenty-three years living in Houston, Texas under the care of her
daughter and only son-in-law.
Tita loved the family dogs: Gorbachev “Cabecita de Pera”, Ace “Clen”, Lala “La Loca” and especially
Chiquito. Although not the best decision, she would constantly sneak food for them either under the
table or through her own creative to go containers from restaurants or family dinners. It was through
Chiquito that she found a companion in which she could care for and build an inseparable bond.
Her legacy will carry on forever reminding us how we should live our lives . We strive to live a life full of
meaningful acts of love and service, like Tita modeled for us. She showed us what true strength is
through her humility, resolve, integrity and compassion.
There are no words that can express how grateful and blessed we are to our friends and family who
were there for us on the night of her passing. We also extend a heartfelt thank you to the Unity Funeral
Home staff for coming to our aid in our time of need.
Her friends and family are invited to share happy memories and celebrate Tita’s life in the way she
would want to be remembered – through joyful stories, whimsical sayings, delightful singing and
contagious smiles.
