James Terry Jones

James Terry Jones "TJ", a beloved son, husband, father, and friend, was born on April 27, 1953, in Greenville, Mississippi, to Thelma Miller. His early years in Greenville were filled with the love and support of his family, setting the foundation for a life characterized by dedication, passion, and unwavering commitment to those he loved. TJ excelled academically and athletically at Greenville High School, where he began to develop his lifelong love for football, baseball, and basketball. TJ was featured in several articles in the Delta Democratic Times. His enthusiasm for sports was evident to everyone around him, and he became known for his spirited support of his teams, particularly the Dallas Cowboys. This passion extended beyond the field as he forged lasting friendships through his participation in Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. After graduating high school, TJ continued his educational journey at Wilberforce University in Ohio, where he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1976. During his time at Wilberforce, he not only focused on his studies but also actively engaged in campus life, leaving a lasting impact on his peers and professors. He was voted by Wilberforce University as Who's Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges in 1976. On December 21, 1981, TJ married the love of his life, Beverly R. Jones. Their union was a testament to true partnership and love. Together, they raised a beautiful family and created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and countless cherished memories. TJ was a devoted father to his children—Dexter Ware, Monica Britton, Tara Cooper, Jamal (TJ) Jones, and Jarris (Randy) Jones. TJ's dedication to his family extended beyond his immediate household. He was a loving brother to Rebecca Miller and a doting grandfather to Duvon J. Miller, Miah Jenkins, Kaylah Gibson, and Kourtney Gibson. His great-grandson, Ace J. Miller, brought an extra sparkle to his eyes, in addition to his fiancée, Priscilla "Dee" Sessum. On December 31, 2024, James Terry Jones "TJ" peacefully departed this world, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and resilience. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Beverly R. Jones; his parents, Thelma and Curtis Miller; his brother, Charles Miller; his grandmother, Rebecca Levison; and his aunt, Julia Smith. TJ's life journey is one that inspires and uplifts. He lived with integrity, passion, and a profound love for his family and friends. He leaves behind a host of nephews, cousins, and friends who will forever cherish his memory and the indelible mark he left on their lives.

A Memorial Service is scheduled on Saturday, January 18, 2025 from 11:00 AM  to  1:00 PM  at Unity Funeral Home Chapel, 7730 Boone Rd., Houston, Tx   77072
