Hugh Gerald "Jerry" Atwood, 90, died April 22, 2014 at Houston, Texas. He was born November 14, 1923 in Palestine, Texas to Clifford W. And Lola Bye Gaddy Atwood. He graduated from the University of Texas, one of his greatest loves. During WWII, Jerry served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theater.
Mr. Atwood retired from Amoco International after a 36 year career of Texas assignments. He was active in the Jaycees, Toastmasters, Cub and Boy Scouts, Little League and served on the Levelland, Texas school board. Jerry founded the Amoco Houston Alumni Club. He enjoyed traveling via RV and visited all lower 48 states. He was a longtime volunteer with the MANNA charity. He was a Presbyterian Elder and a member of the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brother James Atwood, first wife Norma Lee Ilse Atwood, and second wife, Leta Schmuck Atwood, He is survived by his son, David Atwood (JoAnne) of Fairhope, AL, daughter, Beth Black (Rick) of El Paso, step-daughters, Roberta Harrison (Troy) of Houston, Leslie Roop (Mike) of Richmond, TX, Becke Leo (Bob) of Denver. Also sister, Ann Flinn of Lakeway, TX, sister-in-law, Marilyn Atwood of Corsicana, 10 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial service will be held at Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church, 11612 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas on Friday, April 25, 2014 at 1:00 P.M.
