Gilbert Leal passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on June 11, 2016 in the early morning hours at the age of 86.
Our father, grandpa, and wello is remembered for his larger-than-life stories of being a World Cup Soccer winner, descendant of Geronimo to his grandchildren and a magician to all especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the twinkle in his eye, and he loved them dearly.
He was married to the woman who meant the world to him and was the love of his life, Luz Leal, to whom he was married for 62 years. His one wish was to be alive for his 62nd wedding anniversary on June 20th but he will be celebrating in Heaven and smiling lovingly from above on his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Luz Leal, his daughter, Gloria Leal, his son William J. Leal and his wife Ginger. His grandchildren, Tunisia Burns, Gary Burton, Lauren Martin, her husband Travis, Brenna and Kenley Leal. His great grandchildren, Dustin Burns, Leila Burns, Lylah Martin, Lillian Martin, and Tyler Martin, his brother Robert Leal and his wife Rosa and his sister Francis. He joins his son John Nicholas and his mother, Maria P. Solis who preceded him in death.
The family would like to give generous thanks to Luz's niece, Esther Vela, who flew in to spend a week driving and caring for Luz while Gilbert was in the hospital. Also, a heartfelt gratitude for the sacrifices made by Luz's brother and sister-in-law, Margarito and Andrea Rodriguez who gave of themselves so selflessly staying with Luz to help her and care for Gilbert until his final days.
