Florina Das (Das) Joseph

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our matriarch, Florina Das Joseph.   Florina peacefully transitioned to be with her Lord and Savior on the afternoon of May 3, 2023, while surrounded by loved ones in Houston, Tx.

Throughout her life, Florina has been a symbol of calm stoicism, endurance, love, hope, and most importantly she embodied wisdom in all she did.   Florina was born and raised in a small rural town named La Suisse, about 30 minutes outside of Cap Haiten, Haiti, on November 9, 1920.   Her mother, Camelia Cherry, and father Fils-Aime Das had five children and lived most of their lives as a part of a small-knit rice growing community in La Suisse.   The Das family lived a humble life prioritizing their relationship with God and their family.

At 20 years of age, Florina met her husband Berthier Joseph (Deceased February 2, 2019) and went on to build a family of 10 children.   They remained in the La Suisse community nd continued to work as rice farms to provide for their children.    About 20 years ago, the couple moved to the United States to live with their two youngest daughters.

As a young woman and into older age, Florina was not only a homemaker, but the backbone of the family's day to day operation.   She worked alongside her husband to farm and harvest multiple acres of land, while taking care of her children as well as many grandchildren that were being raised as her own.   She was always slow to speak and quick to listen.   When she did speak, she always exuded words of wisdom.  Whether it was her attentive and caring nature or sowing physical seeds in Haiti or her makeshift garden in the U.S., Florina always managed to cultivate an abundant harvest.   Florina will be remembered for her cultivating spirit, her faith in the Lord and her quiet yet unassuming leadership.

At 102, Florina was the last surviving sibling of five children.  She is survived by her three daughters (Josette, Veronique, Amonise) in Houston, Texas, and her other four children (Bertin, Estefen, Madeleine, Leonne) living in Haiti.   She leaves behind a growing legacy that spans 3 generation of 05 grandchildren, 210 greatgrandchildren and 20 great-greatgrandchildren.  She may have passed but her mighty spirit and wisdom will be spoken for generations to come.
