E. Allan Wood, Sr. Obituary

E. Allan Wood, Sr., of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away February 6 at his home.  He was 86 years old.

 

Born in Tarentum, Pennsylvania, on April 28, 1929, he graduated from Har-Brack Union High School, attended Adrian College in Michigan, before graduating with a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1953.  He married his high school sweetheart, Dolores Mills.  They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in September 2015.

 

He was employed as a drilling engineer by Atlantic Refining Company, before becoming a manager of purchasing.  He subsequently worked for Skelly Oil and Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO).  He and Dolores lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New York, California, and Venezuela.  After moving to Sugar Land in 1977, he founded Doal Enterprises, Inc., an oil supply company.  He was enthusiastically working until the day he died.

 

Allan was active in the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land and, later, Grace Presbyterian Church of Houston.  An elder at Grace Church, he served as chair of the annual golf fundraiser benefitting youth missions, was a member of the finance committee, and an usher.   He contributed greatly to the church’s international missions, supporting missionaries in a number of countries.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Cecelia Bachman Wood and Charles “Bub” Kier Wood, and by his brother, Charles Kier Wood.  He is survived by his wife, Dolores, sons, Edward (Shari) Wood of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Jonathan (Debra) Wood of Severna Park, Maryland, and daughter, Kimberly (James) Woeber of Aiken, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew) Taylor, Katherine (Jacob Teter, fiancé), Benjamin, Rebekah, and Samuel Wood, and three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Declan, and Everett Taylor.  Allan loved his family, and was a devoted son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.  He loved greatly and was greatly loved.

 

A memorial service celebrating his life will be held on April 9, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, Texas 77042.  Reception to follow.

 

A second service will be held on July 24, 2016, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church, 1333 Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania 15065 prior to the Interment of the ashes.
