Dolores Carolyn Wood, of Sugar Land, Texas, passed away September 3 at the memory care unit of Autumn Leaves of Riverstone. She was 87 years old.
Born in Deanville, Pennsylvania, she graduated from Har-Brack Union High School. She married her high school sweetheart, E. Allan Wood, Sr. in 1950. They were together until his death in February of this year.
With Allan’s work in the oil industry, Dolores and Allan lived in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, New York, California, and Venezuela. After moving to Sugar Land in 1977, they founded Doal Enterprises, Inc., an oilfield supply company, where they worked together for 35 years.
Dolores was active in the First United Methodist Church of Sugar Land and, later, Grace Presbyterian Church of Houston. She contributed greatly to the church’s youth programs, and assisted with the annual golf fundraiser benefitting youth missions. She also supported international outreach, supporting missionaries in a number of countries.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Gladyne Jane Shoemaker and Samuel Brooks Mills, and by her sisters, Evelyn Eunice (Robert Kepple), and Judith Ann (James Wright). She is survived by her sons, Edward (Shari) Wood of Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, Jonathan (Debra) Wood of Severna Park, Maryland, and daughter, Kimberly (James) Woeber of Aiken, South Carolina; five grandchildren, Ashley (Andrew) Taylor, Katherine (Jacob) Teter, Benjamin, Rebekah, and Samuel Wood, and three great-grandchildren, Hannah, Declan, and Everett Taylor. Dolores was a person of great faith, and a devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She loved greatly and was greatly loved.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held on Friday, November 4, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Grace Presbyterian Church, 10221 Ella Lee Lane, Houston, Texas 77042. Reception to follow.
A second service will be held on Sunday, July 23, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at Mount Airy Memorial Cemetery, 2800 Old Freeport Road, Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, prior to the Interment of the ashes.
