Concepcion Quirante Obituary

CONCEPCION ZOZOBRADO QUIRANTE, 92, passed away on the morning of Monday, August 10, 2015 at her
Houston home.  She was born on February 10, 1923 in Dumanjug, Cebu, Philippines to Andres Godinez
Zozobrado and Magna Villagonzalo Veloso.  She was married on June 11, 1947 to her late husband, Sindulfo Mondejar Quirante who passed away on July 22, 1997.

Education was important in her life.  Initially wanting to be a doctor, she earned an Associate in Arts degree (Pre Med) from Colegio de San Carlos.  Realizing that her passion was in teaching, she continued on with her education and graduated with degrees in Bachelor of Science in Education, Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and Masters in Elementary Education.

She loved being a teacher and was exceptionally great in grammar and spelling.  She used to say she could spot a misspelled word a mile away.  She taught classes in college and high school but her ultimate love was teaching elementary grade students.

Her busy family life did not prevent her from getting involved to make a difference.  She was President of the Camputhaw Elementary School Teachers’ Association from August 1972 until June 1980.  She was President of the Basak Community School Teachers’ Association from July 1980 until January 1984.  Concepcion retired from teaching within the Public School of the Philippine Government in January 1984.

After retirement in 1984, Conchita, as she was affectionately called, migrated to Michigan along with her husband with the sole purpose of what she calls her “apostolic mission” meaning: help take care and teach her grandchildren, her “apos”, her Christian morals and Filipino values.  She was a loving grandmother caring for her many grandchildren as their parents went to work.  While in Michigan she also found time to volunteer and tutor adults on English as a Second Language classes.

She did not like Michigan winter at all (can you blame her?) so along with her husband, they moved to Houston in 1996 where she continued with her “apostolic mission” while still active in many associations:  PASCOH, Inc as Secretary, Filipino-American Senior Center, VISMIN and Lady of Lourdes Charismatic Community.  She was also a parishioner at the Notre Dame Catholic Church and above all, she IS a child of God as she had accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior.

Conchita loved group singing, especially her popular “We’re happy today” and “It’s love that makes the world go round” songs.  And she loved line dancing with her friends at the senior center.

She is survived by her 10 children which she proudly referred to as her 5 Pairs, 33 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren forming her own dynasty she affectionately called the DulChita Clan.   She was and will continue to be her family’s Queen Mother.

She always used to say that she doesn’t care for the riches in this world, for she already have her treasures in her 10 children. It was always her dream to have a family reunion in the USA with all her “treasures” in perfect attendance; it had been 10 years since she was with all of them during their Philippine reunion. This seemed to be quite a task, however, with them living in different parts of the world. With God’s grace and mercy, this dream became a reality when she was reunited with all her children once more during her last days here on earth.
