Charles Terrance Washburn

It is with heavy hearts we announce the death of Charles Terrance “Terry” Washburn of Houston, Texas.    Terry passed away at home on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at the age of 83, after a long battle with COPD. Terry was the oldest child born to Charles George and Mary Lois Creager Washburn on May 19, 1941, in Wichita, Kansas. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Cheryl Ann Washburn and Mary Lynne Washburn Sims.  Terry’s family and friends will miss his sense of humor. He always appreciated a good joke, although his personal repertoire was limited to jokes of the “bad dad” variety. He was a kind and compassionate man who said what he meant and meant what he said. He was gentle and practical, and he rarely raised his voice or engaged in confrontation. Terry loved his Astros and Texans, along with fishing and bow hunting. Terry loved hunting for arrowheads with his wife Jan, and together they made many wonderful memories over the years at the Retamosa Ranch in south Texas. Most of all, Terry loved his family.  Terry is survived by his devoted wife and companion of over 35 years, Janet Bevill Washburn; his children Lori Washburn Rutledge and Scott (Kerri) Washburn; three grandchildren, Dustin (Rachel) Rutledge, Jennifer Rutledge, and Dillon (Katie) Rutledge; along with three great-granddaughters, Elizabeth, Delaney, and Skylar.
