Our beloved mother, Carmelita (affectionately known as "Mels" to relatives and close friends), passed away in peace, at the age of 86, in Hartford, Connecticut.
She was born in Mangatarem, Pangasinan, to José Mari Ferrer and Pilar de la Cruz Jimenez, and raised in Quezon City, Philippines. Mama graduated from the University of the Philippines Diliman, with an A.B. in Social Work. She subsequently joined our father, Rome, to forge a new life in Chicago, Illinois. Through hard work and determination, our parents eventually sent for their brood of four to join them. Their fifth and last child would be born in America.
Dearest Mama was a voracious reader, crossword puzzle enthusiast, and lover of classic films and music (TCM was her go-to channel!). Waxing poetic, or singing tunes of the 40s and 50s, were the sounds that constantly filled our home. Mama was adept at sewing, crafting (oh, what gorgeous homemade Christmas wreaths she created), and gardening. As a family, we traversed the U.S. coast to coast several times via van, and having "crossed the pond" was an unforgettable experience! Lastly, she loved to foray into international cuisines, and prepared countless varieties of meals to enjoy with the entire family.
Preceded in death by our beloved father/Lolo, Rome, we are her heartbroken children (Bambi. Rex, Pinkie, Mike, and Nikki) and grandchildren (Andrew, Daniel, and Miranda). We miss you terribly, Mama/Mamie, but we know that you are now with God in Eternal Peace!
