The gates of heaven opened up on July 20, 2010, to welcome home Mary Elizabeth Lauer, age 70. Mary was a beloved mother to her children, Linda Gay and her husband Tommy Gay (deceased), Jeff Lauer (deceased), Becky Lauer and her husband Joe Sanchez, Marty Howard and her husband Kenny Howard, and Ricky Lauer. Mary had one brother who was very dear to her heart, Bill Harmon and a sister-in-law Karen Harmon. Known to all as "Granny", she had many grandchildren of her own, Mary Dorn and her husband Kevin Dorn, Tricia Gay, Angie Birt, Aimee Carnes, Jeremy Carnes, Chris Lauer, and Andy Lauer. Granny also had numerous great and great great grandchildren. Her greatest joy of all was her little dog Willie who never left her side. Born in Dayton Ohio on August 8, 1939, she moved to Texas and has been a long time resident of the Houston area. She loved to garden, read true crime novels, birdwatch, and truly eating her ice cream and chocolates. If there was one thing everyone will remember about Granny it would have to be her sweet spirit. Always kind and giving, she loved taking care of those close to her. Over the past few months it became Granny's turn to be cared for. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Atrium Medical Center, with a special thank you to Pat, RN and Mary, RT. The entire ICU staff showed genuine care and concern above and beyond the call of duty. Granny was our own little piece of heaven on earth. Though she will be greatly missed and forever loved, we know God has called his angel home.

A graveside service will be held 10:00 AM, Friday, July 23, 2010 at Davis Greenlawn Cemetery, FM 2218 at Highway 59, Richmond, Texas.  Officiating will be Pastor Tim Christ of Joy Lutheran Church, Richmond, Texas

We're so sorry for your loss. Your mom was a great lady we enjoyed having her as a neighbor. If you need anything, please remember we're right next door.

I was surprised to hear of Mary's passing. My prayers are with you at this time. Mary was a very special person and a lovely spirit. She was the person who let me know I was having a son, what a special gift! She will leave a very big gap in life. My heartfelt sympathies. Much love to all of you! Lorraine
